News from the Club Captain – 21st January 2022

Dear PMGC Golf Members,

It is hoped that you all had a wonderful and joyous Christmas celebrating with (and probably hosting) friends and relatives and are now ready for a full and productive year playing golf at our outstanding golf course.

The 2022 Golf Fixture program has now been finalised and is on the PMGC website.
A huge thank you to Chris McMullen who has worked diligently throughout the holidays compiling and collating the program. Chris has been ably assisted by the members of the Golf Services Committee (GSC).

The GSC consists of Club Captain (Mike Maxworthy), Golf Professional (Glenn Warne), Men’s and Women’s Captain (Rod Smith and Kim Helmers), Men’s and Women’s Vice Captain (Colin Gould and Leonie Bell). All members of PMGC are encouraged to discuss golf matters with members of the GSC. However, for any matter to be considered and acted upon it must be presented in a formal manner, e.g., written or sent electronically.

Our golf season kicks off with an Australia Day Irish Fourball Sunday, 30 January Shotgun start (9.30 for 10am). Many thanks to Ian and Noelene Franks for sponsoring this day. Although the event does not fall on Australia Day members are encouraged to be patriotic and dress accordingly. Following this event, the yearly events will begin. Women’s opening day is Tuesday, 1 February and Men’s is Wednesday, 2 February.

The Far South Coast District pennants begins early in the year. PMGC hosts the first round of Men’s pennants Sunday 20 February whilst the Women’s pennants begin on Friday, 25 March. I am very confident that members representing our club will do so with pride, skill, humility and panache. Good luck to all who play!

Members are alerted to the flyer on the notice board regarding the 2022 District Championships to be held at Narooma Golf club on Sunday,13 February. Entries are required to be submitted by Sunday, 30 January. See the notice board for further details.

We know that many PMGC members enjoy shotgun starts. It allows members to socialise with other members after the round. PMGC will always comply with NSW Health directives and therefore, currently, we can only accommodate 96 people in the 28th at any one time. Whilst this should allow PMGC to cater for most shotgun events there may be a need to use the Alfresco area. Consideration has been made of this and a plan has been decided upon to allow members to enjoy a post round drink within this area. To assist with the demand for coffees, barista coffee will not be provided after a shot gun start. Instant tea and coffee facilities will be provided. I trust that members appreciate the need and reasons why this action is to be taken.

PMGC has many volunteers who donate their time and efforts to improve and further enhance our golf course. The Garden group begin their 2022 efforts Monday, 7 February from 8.30 -10.30am. If there are members who have any free time and wish to be involved, please meet at the putting green. Your efforts to help this fantastic group will be greatly appreciated.

I wish all PMGC golfers the best for the 2022 season and may all your golf be enjoyable.

Yours in golf

Mike Maxworthy
Club Captain
